FORGOTTEN IN THE LIBRARY
by Harold Burch
One of my close friends in Prince School was Walter Yuskiw. We were neighbours at the time, and spent a lot of time together. Because we sat together in class, we sometimes got into problems with the teacher for disturbing the class.
One afternoon, after recess, we got into trouble with the teacher, and were sent to the library at the front of the school. We did not mind this too much, as there were books to read. As long a we did not talk too loud we would not get into trouble.
Finally 4:00 o'clock came and the other children all left to go home. This did not bother us too much, as we expected the teacher to come in any minute and give us a lecture. He would probably tell us to be quiet in class in the future.
Then the teacher left. He went out the front door, locked it and took off in his car.
Now we realized he had forgotten us, and what were we to do? We tried the library window, and were able to open it. This was a relief, and we crawled out, and closed the window. Then we headed for home.
When we got home, our parents wondered where we had been. We told them, and they accepted our explanation.
The next day at school the teacher remembered us, and we told him what we had done. Everyone considered it a joke.
I cannot recall ever being sent to the
library again for punishment.
