By Luke Evans - Grade 6
This is a story about my dad, Russell Evans. He grew up in Prince Township. He walked to Prince Township School from the house across the road. At school they had only three classrooms for grades one to 8 with no kindergarten and gym but they played soccer and hockey in town against other schools. In grade one, he had Mrs. Christie and for a principal he had Mr. Graham. In grade five, his teacher was Mr. Wilkinson. He made chili for the class once or twice a month. In grade six, he had to go to Gros Cap school. It was an annex.
Families were large back then. May dad had four brothers and he had four sisters. His dad worked at Algoma Steel and his mom stayed at home to raise the family. He lived on a farm. They had both beef and dairy cows and horses. They had a collie dog (like Lassie) called Leah.
He went camping a lot with his family. He went to Memphis, Tennessee to visit his uncle, aunt and cousins. On the same trip he visited the Memphis Zoo. He got to see Elvis Presley's house.
I'm really glad I am living today instead of back them. The families sound like they were way too big.
