Prince Township was organized and incorporated on April 3, 1897 with Thomas Walls as Reeve, Robert Liddle as Clerk, and Christopher Walls, son of Thomas Walls, as Treasurer.
By 1879, during its time as an unorganized township, the settlers had built a school in section 25 on land that was sold tot he school trustees of Section No. 1 by Alexander and Mary Tremeet for the sum of five dollars. In 1885, the community built a Methodist Church in Section 36 on one-half acre of land owned by Edmond Walls. Mr. Walls also donated the lumber of the church which is now the Prince Township Museum. In 1886, he sold the property for the sum of one dollar to the trustees of the Prince Congregation of the Methodist Church.
Who were these people who cleared the land, planted the seeds, harvested the crops, mined, fished, and planed lumber? Who were those who shared with us their ideas, recipes, plants patterns, dreams, tears, and laughter? They were and are out families, friends, and neighbours.
Many have died; some have moved away from the Township
but those who are left remember their values of God, Home and Country. As Prince
Township celebrates it centennial year, let's share our memories of, and love
for, our community.
