My wife and I worked on the refinishing of the one room school for the Museum of Prince Township. While we were working on the hardwood floor, my dad - Fern Mousseau, made comment to my wife about “being kicked out of Prince School”. Of course, my wife was curious as to why my dad was removed from the school. Apparently, my dad was kicked out of school for speaking in his natural fluent tongue of French. He told my wife, “One minute I was playing in the school yard (speaking French, of course), and the next minute I was out of the school altogether.”
Another moment in history that has been memorable to me was after one of our fire training meetings during the early 90's. It was a night I will never forget - as we helped in apprehending some young men.
The first time, we didn’t catch the culprits. The second time, we managed to catch some of them. But the third time, they were caught (and some of these kids had been apprehended earlier in the second incident). Our entire Fire Department of Vcolunteers responded. Our cars had blocked the “get away car” front and back on Borden Avenue.
The City Police were of course contacted, and they were
amazed with our efforts. They actually congratulated Leslie, Jamie, Lou, Jerry
and myself for our instincts. However, the Ontario Provincial Police reprimanded
us for the danger that we had placed ourselves in.
